Community. Sport. Fun.
SurfAndGrindGasteiz.org · Surf & Grind Gasteiz kirol elkartea
We are eighty percenters. Surfers, skaters, snowboarders and anyone who loves a board.
We are a non-profit cultural and sports association promoting surfing and its board-sport variants across Álava, above all among young people: events, meet-ups, clinics, demonstrations and travel talks.
We started in 2018 with one clear idea: to build community in and out of the water.
To keep a surf, skate and board-sports community in Gasteiz with a place of its own to practise, train and spend time together; and to use these sports to pass on consistency, respect and belonging to anyone who needs role models and a safe place.
It makes no difference whether you are five or seventy, twenty years on a board or none at all. There is room here for a surf trip, a session of slappies, a skin-track climb up a mountain and, above all, a very good time.
From 2018 to today
This is not learned by listening.
We believe in everything that happens after a fall: trying again, getting past the fear, gaining confidence and finding out you are capable of more than you thought. Sports like skateboarding teach perseverance, resilience, self-esteem, respect and looking out for each other in a different way. That is why Surf & Grind is a community in Gasteiz where children, teenagers and adults grow together, on and off the board, until the person who once needed to hear «try again» ends up saying it to somebody else.
Self-esteem
A trick lands on the hundredth try, not the first. When it finally lands, the proof that you can is yours and nobody can take it away.
Resilience
Falling here is not failure: it is the method. You learn it in front of people, with nobody laughing, and it does not stay in the room.
Persistence
Nobody rides the whole bowl on day one. What actually gets trained is coming back the following Wednesday, and the one after.
Different ways to flow with the community.
What you give. And what it includes.
One membership. You get to know us and we get to know you, you see whether this is your place and you decide. With several amounts in between, the fee runs from zero, for the people who pitch in with the association, up to a maximum of forty euros a month, and it does not change what you get. Whoever contributes and lends a hand is rewarded for it.
Membership fee
Zero if you pitch in; €40 a month at most
You choose how long. Between zero and forty there are several amounts, and you pick yours.
Why do we want people who pitch in?
Because this place has to be kept up, run and coordinated, and people do that. Tell us what you can help with and we will find a way.
What every membership includes
- Free use of the association throughout opening hours
- 600 m² indoor skatepark, bouldering, yoga area and surf fitness / gym
- Coast and snow trips with the community, plus events, clinics and meet-ups
- A special members’ price at clinics, junior learning, camps and open events
- Guests: you can bring someone interested in the community to one session, with notice
- A voice and a vote in the association’s decisions and meetings
- And the main thing: listening, talking, laughing, suggesting and building community
This is held up by a lot of people.
We hold this up between all of us. These are the three ways to help, from the smallest to the largest.
- 01
Be part of it
It is what holds this house up most. Being a member is not only something for you: you are backing this so it keeps going. That is what covers the rent, the electricity, the insurance and the upkeep.

Lend a hand
Building, modules, setting up, photos, driving to the coast, helping at events and activities. No long commitment needed: we ask in the group and whoever can, comes, and every event counts on the members first. You can lend a hand without being part of the community: it is usually a good way to get to know us.

Fund something specific
Mostly for organisations and companies that want to help in one way or another. We do not sell logos on a wall here: we fund things with a name —a place, the beginners’ area, loan equipment or an open day—. You know what you supported and what for, and we explain what we did with it and how.

A non-profit does not live off thin air, and it does not want to be a burden on public bodies. So we fund ourselves through a small sum of parts —members, community, events and brands— that covers costs that are far from small.
And we also do… this.
And the cultural side
This cultural space uses the association’s facilities during the hours and the nights nobody is skating, and opens them to the community. They are offered to creative projects charging only the running costs, and every euro that comes in is reinvested straight back into the project.

It is not a gym. It is not a pay-to-enter club. It is a meeting point for everyone who loves boards and shares their values and their culture. Community, sport and fun. A free trial, and from there you decide how much you commit.
